Landscaping Business Owner

Being a business owner can be an incredible challenge — as well as rewarding, fulfilling and profitable.

One of the best reasons to be a landscape business owner is because you control your own destiny. There is no reward without risk; however, a well-run, healthy business should yield financial wealth and security for your family.

Being a business owner requires an “entrepreneurial spirit” that drives you on a daily basis. The challenges and opportunities vary with the different phases of business ownership. It also varies based on your market, economic climate, financial capital and company maturity.

A necessary part of business ownership is learning from others in the landscape industry personally. My company and I have benefitted greatly from participation and involvement in the National Association of Landscape Professionals. The value of the educational programs and networking opportunities has been immense, not to mention, I have built some great friendships along the way.

Owning and leading a landscape business requires a broad range of job skills, experience, management skills and most importantly — leadership skills. I have been enjoying this challenge for the past 40 years, and have been honored to work with a truly outstanding group of people.
